Russia Gains $10 Billion for War from Hormuz Crisis; Ukraine Urges End to Blockade.
How the Middle East Situation Is Shaping the War in Ukraine
According to UATV: The ongoing tensions in the Middle East are directly impacting Russia's war against Ukraine. Rising oil prices have handed Moscow a financial windfall, giving it more resources to fund its military operations. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Heorhii Tykhyi, has called for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that any restrictions on freedom of navigation are completely unacceptable.
According to data presented by Tykhyi, the Kremlin has earned roughly $10 billion from energy exports over just two weeks of fighting. This underscores how keeping key maritime routes closed could have serious consequences—not just for the global economy, but for Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
'We fully understand that this is already giving Russia additional resources for the war,' said Heorhii Tykhyi.
Oil Tankers Resume Movement Through the Strait of Hormuz
Kevin Hassett, a White House economic advisor, has also confirmed that oil tankers have started moving through the Strait of Hormuz again, signaling a return of activity in this strategically vital waterway. From Ukraine’s perspective, unblocking the strait is critical to limiting Russia’s financial capacity to wage war and maintaining regional stability.
The issue of navigational freedom in the Strait of Hormuz not only affects oil-exporting countries' economies but could also become a key factor in geopolitical relations. Restoring tanker traffic through this route could reduce the flow of revenue to Russia, which in turn would positively impact Ukraine’s security and its fight against aggression. As a result, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains crucial for global stability and regional conflicts.
