Ukraine Prepares for Winter: How Energy Facilities Will Be Protected and How Much Gas Will Be Stockpiled.
Ukraine is preparing for the heating season amid the war with Russia. The main focus is on the protection of energy facilities, which is being worked on by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
“Electricity consumers have not faced outages for almost a year thanks to the efforts of energy workers,” emphasized Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk.
Currently, the restoration of energy equipment is underway, along with the repair of damaged facilities and resource stockpiling for the heating season. The reservoirs contain over 13 billion cubic meters of gas, of which 4.6 billion cubic meters is imported gas.
Additionally, Ukraine has received financial assistance from the European Union for gas purchases and has signed loan agreements with the EBRD and EIB to support the energy system.
The government has also allocated funds for the purchase of firewood, coal, or peat for heating homes, and low-income individuals are provided with the opportunity to receive benefits for utilities.
