Pope Leo XIV called for an immediate ceasefire: Zelensky's reaction.
Pope's Call for Peace
According to FREEДOM:
War continues in Ukraine, bringing death and destruction. This was stated by Pope Leo XIV on August 31, expressing solidarity with the Ukrainian people and affected families, according to FREEДОМ.
The Pope urged everyone not to remain indifferent.
'I once again emphasize my urgent call for an immediate ceasefire and serious commitment to dialogue. It is time for those who bear responsibility to abandon the logic of weapons and choose the path of negotiations and peace with the support of the international community. The voice of weapons must be silenced, while the voice of brotherhood and justice must be heard ever louder,' wrote Pope Leo XIV on the social network X.
In response to this statement, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also shared his thoughts.
'I am grateful to Pope Leo XIV for this strong call to stop the war and killings. We fully support His Holiness's position on the need for an immediate ceasefire and urge Russia to take real steps to halt the killings and create conditions for diplomacy. Russia must end the war it started and refuses to finish. It is crucial for all in the world who value human life to put pressure on Moscow to make it stop terror and instead promote a meaningful peace process,' noted the head of the Ukrainian state.
We recall that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with Pope Leo XIV during his visit to Rome on July 9.
The calls of the Pope emphasize the need for dialogue and the establishment of peace in Ukraine. They highlight the importance of the global community's involvement in resolving the conflict, as well as the importance of stopping violence at all levels. President Zelensky's words reflect hopes for a diplomatic resolution of the situation and international support for Ukraine in its struggle for peace.
