Suspension of the use of 'Phantoms' in Ukraine

In Ukraine, the use of 'Phantoms' – hidden patrols that recorded traffic violations – has been temporarily halted. This was reported by Oleksiy Biloshytskyi, the first deputy head of the Patrol Police Department of Ukraine.
'Regarding the 'Phantoms', for now, they are not in use. The system is effective, but during martial law, there are certain nuances regarding their use. A return is possible later,' Biloshytskyi noted.
Instead of 'Phantoms', open methods of automatic control of traffic rule violations are being actively implemented in Ukraine. Currently, there are 340 auto-fixation cameras and 338 TruCAM control points in operation. This is part of a road safety strategy that helps drivers be more attentive. In 2020, thanks to the fixation cameras, the number of serious accidents decreased significantly. The police plan to expand the range of recorded violations, including running a red light and monitoring other aspects of traffic. Possible age restrictions for drivers and fines for refusing to communicate in Ukrainian during customer service are also being discussed. Thus, Ukraine is transitioning to open road control methods, changing the approach from the use of 'Phantoms' to more transparent and objective systems that will enhance safety on the roads.
