Sir Alex Ferguson, one of Caldwell Potter's owners, celebrates his horse's victory at the Cheltenham festival and may soon have a new contender for the Gold Cup.

This is good news for Sir Alex Ferguson, who along with friends, including the late John Hales, paid over £600,000 for Caldwell Potter when he moved from Gordon Elliott's stable.

The horse won on debut at Carlisle, but after a few defeats with short odds, managed to win among novices at the Cheltenham festival.

Caldwell Potter continued his winning streak, winning at the £3 million Grade 1 Mildmay at Grand National in Aintree.

After a summer break, he returned to Nicholls, who positively analyzed the condition of the seven-year-old horse during a recent visit to the stables.

Future Prospects

Nicholls knows what he needs for victory in major competitions and believes Caldwell Potter can be a serious contender for the Gold Cup.

The trainer emphasized that small changes in the shoes significantly improved the horse's condition:

“Last year he had leg issues, but now we've gotten them under control.”

Nicholls also noted:

“If we get a lot of rain, he may begin performances in intermediate races at Newton Abbot for competitions that have been won by Bravemansgame, Black Corton, and Pic D'Orhi.”

He added:

“This season I’m not necessarily saying he will be a horse for the Gold Cup, but I have never seen him in such wonderful condition as he is now.”
Caldwell Potter's successes open new prospects for Nicholls' team and his owners. Sir Alex Ferguson's and his partners' contributions to the development of this horse could lay the foundation for new significant achievements in racing. We are eager to see how their efforts will impact the upcoming competitions.
