Pensions for Loss of Breadwinner for Families of Fallen Defenders

According to inkorr.com: The families of fallen defenders of Ukraine have the right to a pension for loss of breadwinner, which is provided for the non-working members of the family. This was stated by the chairman of the Board of the Pension Fund of Ukraine, Yevhen Kapinus.

Conditions and Amounts of Payments

'The right to receive a pension for loss of breadwinner belongs to the non-working family members of the deceased who were dependent on them. Among them are the wife (or husband), parents, children under 18 years old or older if they are disabled under 18 years,' explained Kapinus.

Duration of Payments

Pensions for children are assigned until they reach 18 years old or until they finish their education, if they study full-time until 23 years old. Pensions for adult family members are assigned for an indefinite period or until disability is determined,' added the head of the PFU.

Determining the Size of the Pension

The amount of the pension depends on the income of the deceased and the number of dependents to whom the payment is assigned, noted Kapinus.

Other Changes in the Pension System

It should be noted that pension indexation in 2025 amounted to 11.5%, which was calculated based on the growth of consumer prices and average salaries. To retire, one needs to have work experience from 22 to 32 years, depending on the age of the person.

The pension reform in Ukraine has made the system more secure and compliant with international standards. The assignment of pensions has become more flexible and continuous. The Pension Fund of Ukraine pays funds monthly to approximately 10.3 million pensioners, which accounts for 85% of the country's social expenditures.

In case of loss of the breadwinner, the families of fallen defenders of Ukraine have received the opportunity to receive pensions, which is an important social measure for supporting the families of the deceased. These new rules and regulations emphasize how the pension system is becoming more sensitive to the needs of the families of military personnel who sacrificed their lives for the country.
