The pensions of judges and prosecutors will be reviewed: why their payments cost the state so much.
Changes are needed in the Ukrainian pension system
According to inkorr.com: Danylo Hetmantsev, head of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on finance, tax, and customs policy, shared his opinion on the need to review pension payments for certain categories of retirees. He emphasized that pension costs for judges are not different from pension costs for medical workers and teachers.
If we spend 440 million hryvnias per month on pensions for 4 thousand judges, we spend the same amount on 120 thousand pensioners among teachers and medical workers. While an ordinary person needs to achieve a work experience of 32 years to retire, judges require only 20 years in office, and prosecutors – 15 years.
Hetmantsev also stressed that judges and prosecutors have special conditions for retirement, allowing them to receive pensions at the ages of 46 and 55, respectively. Their pension amounts are significantly higher than regular payments.
While an ordinary person receives an average pension of 30% of their income, and currently even less, a prosecutor or judge receives 50-70% of their salary. Moreover, while ordinary citizens' pensions are simply indexed according to a formula that also requires improvement, special pensions are recalculated due to increases in the financial support of certain officials.
Hetmantsev called for the reform of the pension payment system for certain categories, as there is a significant disparity in pension amounts for judges, prosecutors, and ordinary citizens that needs correction and changes.
Discussions on pension reform are becoming increasingly relevant in society, as the issue of fairness in payments requires urgent resolution. Given the significant difference between pensions for different categories, it is important to implement changes that ensure more equal access to pension payments for all Ukrainians.
