Trump faces opposition over missile supplies to Ukraine: what it means.
Trump faces opposition to restoring missile supplies to Ukraine
According to inkorr.com: According to information from The Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon has secretly prohibited Ukraine from using American ballistic and British cruise missiles to strike Russia. This has raised doubts about Trump's support for the peace process in Ukraine. It is currently unclear whether Trump himself supported such a policy, but restrictions on arms supplies to the Ukrainian armed forces were recently reviewed.
In July, the Pentagon suspended the supply of vital weapons to Ukraine, however, as a result of Trump's intervention, they were eventually delivered. 'He must reverse the Pentagon's policy on the use of missiles by Ukrainians,' remarked representatives from Ukraine.
Ukraine is already targeting Russian facilities using drones, but their missile weapons are significantly less powerful. The U.S. is now planning to transfer several thousand ERAM missiles as part of an $850 million arms package funded by European countries.
Questions about the effectiveness of weapons
The ban on the use of ERAM missiles against Russia could significantly hamper the effectiveness of this weapon. Analysts are calling for the provision of additional ATACMS systems to increase pressure on Russian targets.
Although there are concerns that strikes against Russia could lead to an escalation of the conflict, past experience suggests that these risks are often overstated. Trump has the opportunity to influence Moscow, but for this, his administration must act in a united manner.
In addition to the plan to sell missiles, the U.S. has also approved the supply of equipment for Patriot and Starlink services to Ukraine.
Ukrainian military personnel conducting drone strikes against Russia need modern weaponry to defend the country's sovereignty. The restoration of missile supplies could strengthen defense capabilities and increase pressure on Russia in the region. However, there is a risk of escalation in the conflict, so it is important that the actions of the U.S. and Ukraine are coordinated and well thought out.
