First Trilateral Meeting Held in Abu Dhabi

According to TSN.ua: The first substantive trilateral meeting between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States took place in Abu Dhabi on January 24, focusing on both military and political matters. These talks represent a significant diplomatic effort to address the ongoing conflict. The military subgroup reached constructive agreements, with the parties agreeing to prepare definitions for a ceasefire regime's terms ahead of the next meeting. However, territorial disputes between the nations remain unresolved.

Negotiation Process and Outcomes

Discussions were conducted in two subgroups: political and military. Despite initial conditions set by the Russian delegation to exclude NATO, the OSCE, and European countries from monitoring roles, the military subgroup was ultimately able to find common ground. Russian representatives noted that a relationship of trust has developed between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, which provides a foundation for continued dialogue.

The sides also agreed to continue negotiations in approximately one week. An unidentified interlocutor during the discussions remarked:

"To which Driscoll asked them: 'You know that a significant portion of Ukraine's resources comes from the U.S., so what if we participate in monitoring?'"
Thus, despite constructive results on military issues, territorial disagreements persist, highlighting the need for further efforts to resolve them. The unresolved status of Crimea and the Donbas region continues to be a major point of contention.

This meeting in Abu Dhabi marks an important step in diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace in the region. It demonstrates gradual progress in military negotiations, though unresolved territorial questions remain a serious challenge for all participants. Subsequent steps in the dialogue could prove decisive for the future development of the situation and regional stability.
