88 billion hryvnias spent on energy risks not for their intended purpose: conclusion of the Temporary Investigation Commission

According to inkorr.com: Recently, the Temporary Investigation Commission of the Verkhovna Rada examined the tariff policy in the energy sector and discovered serious violations during the increase of electricity prices for citizens. The head of the Union of Utility Consumers, Oleg Popenko, reported that this increase occurred without proper economic justification.

'In addition, the 88 billion hryvnias that Ukrainians paid supposedly 'to cover energy risks' were not used for their intended purpose,' noted Oleg Popenko.

According to official data, this money was supposed to go to support the energy system during the war. However, as the commission found out, the funds were not used for their intended purpose. Popenko harshly commented on the situation, calling it a serious state betrayal.

Oleg Popenko also called for accountability for those responsible for these violations, noting that when tariffs are increased, citizens should receive adequate state support, rather than face a default situation, as happened with 'Ukrenergo'.

Prepare for a difficult winter

The head of the Union of Utility Consumers called on Ukrainians to prepare for a challenging winter.

As a result of the examination of tariff policy, numerous violations were found, including the improper use of funds intended for supporting the energy system in wartime conditions. Oleg Popenko is insisting on holding accountable those responsible, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the state when citizens are forced to pay more for electricity.

These events highlight the urgency of addressing issues in the energy sector and the need for transparency in the management of funds spent on energy infrastructure. The situation indicates a lack of proper control over the use of the state budget, which can seriously affect the living standards of Ukrainians, especially during the winter. It is crucial for state bodies to pay more attention to issues of support for the population in critical situations.
