Today, September 18, the top scorer and player of the 1990 World Cup - Salvatore Schillaci, passed away. The Italian had been battling colon cancer for several years. He died at the age of 59.

The former footballer's family reported his hospitalization the day before. However, it was noted that Schillaci was in stable condition and under the care of the best doctors.

To recall, Schillaci retired in 1997. At the 1990 World Cup, he won bronze medals. He last played for the Italian national team on September 25, 1991.

As part of Turin's "Juventus," Schillaci won the Italian Cup and the UEFA Cup. In addition, he won the UEFA Cup while playing for Milan's "Inter."

It should be noted that on September 17, the 25-year-old boxer and member of the Ukrainian national team Arkadiy Kartsan passed away.

The boxer had been in a coma for three days, and today his heart stopped. The exact cause of the athlete's death is unknown.

Kartsan was an international boxing master of sports and multiple champion of Ukraine. He represented our country at the European Games 2023, where he was eliminated in the round of 16.

In domestic competitions, Arkadiy competed for the Khmelnytskyi region and the sports club "Avangard."

In 2023, Kartsan became the champion of Ukraine in boxing in the 92 kg weight category. In 2015, he also became the European junior champion.

"Such a desire to win as this guy had is hard to find, he dreamed of becoming an Olympic champion and worked hard for it. The boxing family expresses sincere condolences to Arkadiy's family! Rest in peace, champion! We will always remember you!", said the Boxing Federation of Ukraine in a statement.

It is worth noting that at the beginning of January, the head coach of the Ukrainian boxing team, Dmytro Sosnovsky, reported that Kartsan had suffered psychological stress at a tournament in Debrecen.

As reported, motorcyclist Filippo Rovelli withdrew from the last two stages of the National Trophy 1000 Italy tournament so that Luca Salvadori could become the posthumous winner.
