Russia did not dare to reclaim its tanker in the USA: what is happening in the Atlantic.
According to ТСН: The Kremlin cannot confront the United States regarding the detention of Russian tankers and is essentially just observing the situation.
Comment from the representative of the Naval Forces of Ukraine
This was stated by the spokesman of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk, during a broadcast on Espresso.
“As for the detention of Russian tankers by the United States, the Russians can only fight with all of NATO in Solovyov's studio. In real space, all they can do is just watch as a true superpower does what it needs to do, and not a puppet like the Russian Federation.”
According to Pletenchuk, the Russian side likely did not interfere in this process.
“Therefore, the Russians probably did not interfere in this process, but only observed.”
International maritime law
He also emphasized the importance of adhering to international maritime law norms in such situations.
“One should not forget that according to international maritime law, a vessel accompanied by military forces loses the immunity of a civilian vessel.”
Pletenchuk added that such practices create additional risks for Russia.
“The situation on one hand requires escort, but on the other hand, it immediately loses the status of a civilian vessel. Therefore, sanctions can indeed appear in different ways.”
Detention of tankers
It was previously reported that American troops, supported by Royal Air Force aircraft from Britain, boarded and seized the Russian tanker Marinera in the Atlantic Ocean.
It was also reported that among the crew of the oil tanker Bella-1, which was detained by the US Coast Guard for violating sanctions against the Russian Federation, there are citizens of Ukraine.
These events underline the relevance of international maritime law in resolving disputes at sea. America continues to firmly adhere to its policy towards Russia, increasing pressure on any actions that may threaten international security. At the same time, the Kremlin's reaction indicates that it is losing influence in important international affairs.
