Payments of international companies for electronic services

In the first nine months of this year, international non-resident companies providing electronic services to individuals in Ukraine transferred 10.6 billion UAH in the form of 'Google tax'. This information was disclosed by the State Tax Service.
'We notice a positive trend compared to the same period in 2024: the number of registered payers has increased by 13, and the amount of tax liabilities has grown by 2.5 billion UAH,' said acting Head of the State Tax Service Lesia Karnaukh.
Among the main payers contributing to the Ukrainian budget this year were companies such as Apple, Google, Valve, Meta, Sony, Etsy, Netflix, Wargaming, Bolt, OpenAI, Ebay, and others. Since January 1, 2022, a total of 141 VAT payers among non-residents providing electronic services to individuals have been registered in Ukraine.
'Transparent rules of operation for everyone - both Ukrainian companies and global giants. This is what truly changes the tax culture, strengthens the trust of every taxpayer, and consequently contributes to increasing revenues. Fair competition conditions are one of the main demands of business, especially in wartime conditions. It is our task to ensure that Ukrainian businesses are not in worse conditions than global companies,' emphasized Lesia Karnaukh.
The tax authority also reminds that the obligation to register arises if the total amount of supply over the last 12 months exceeds 1,000,000 UAH.Thus, the Ukrainian State Tax Service confirms that international companies providing electronic services in Ukraine pay significant amounts of 'Google tax'. Among the main payers are large global brands such as Apple, Google, Valve, Meta, and many others. This process indicates improvements in the Ukrainian tax system, helping to simplify procedures for all taxpayers. The growth of tax revenues from international companies is an important indicator for the Ukrainian economy, especially in wartime conditions. It testifies to progress towards creating fair conditions for doing business and supporting domestic enterprises in competitive struggles.
