Budapest's Politics Discredit EU Principles — Diplomat.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban uses the veto right, forcing the European Union to reconsider the decision-making process. This issue will be discussed by the new European Commission and the European Parliament, said Ukrainian diplomat Oleksander Levchenko.
According to him: "Budapest's policy discredits the principle of unanimity and becomes ineffective. Previously, this principle was justified when there were a few countries in the EU. But now, with an increasing number of countries, this principle operates less effectively. Budapest's policy violates European traditions, rules, and does not coordinate its foreign and security policies with Brussels. This pushes countries to make decisions not unanimously, but by majority vote. Probably, this issue will be discussed by the new European Commission and the European Parliament."
The diplomat is also confident that Hungary may be boycotted at the EU level. The meeting of foreign ministers has already been moved from Budapest to Brussels. He is confident that a similar situation may occur with the meeting of Eurozone finance ministers, which will take place next week.
Oleksander Levchenko emphasized: "Blocking funding for Ukraine is subjective and even harmful. Most EU countries and European Commission members are outraged that Viktor Orban believes he can dispose of European funds at his discretion. Therefore, there is a possibility that the meeting of finance ministers will be moved."
