Russia nearly plunged Poland into darkness: details of a large-scale cyberattack.
According to ТСН: In Poland, a serious cyberattack by Russia on important electrical installations occurred at the end of 2025, threatening a major blackout in the country.
As reported by Poland's Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Grabowski,
“This was the most serious attack on energy infrastructure aimed at cutting off electricity to citizens at the end of December. We were very close to a blackout.”
He noted that, in the last days of December, energy installations, including thermal power plants, were under attack. According to Grabowski, worsening weather conditions also complicated the situation.
The minister also added:
“Everything indicates that we are dealing with Russian sabotage aimed at destabilizing the situation in Poland... We have well-prepared institutions. There is no need to panic.”
The Minister of Energy of Poland, Miloš Motika, had previously reported an unsuccessful cyberattack on facilities producing electricity in the country.
“The Cyber Command has diagnosed the strongest attack on energy infrastructure in recent years in the last days of the year,” Reuters quotes Motika.
At the same time, in Germany, Ukrainians are suspected of preparing diversions. In the course of the investigation, two suspects, Vladislav T. and Danilo B., are accused of espionage and conspiracy to carry out diversions, allegedly sending packages with GPS trackers from Cologne to Ukraine to gather data on logistics routes.
These events highlight the growing tension in the region, as cyberattacks are becoming increasingly frequent. The investigation in Germany into possible diversions points to a threatening situation that requires close attention from law enforcement agencies. Energy security remains a critically important issue for Poland and its neighbors.
