The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radek Sikorski, stated that for Putin, the continuation of the war in Ukraine is important for maintaining his own political positions. He also emphasized that a summit with Russia for a peaceful settlement might not yield effective results if held prematurely.

The politician expressed his stance on US President Donald Trump's intention to join negotiations with Putin. He noted that there are two approaches for negotiations with a difficult partner - official talks at a lower level or a personal meeting of leaders. However, he emphasized that it is more important to assess the outcomes of such negotiations rather than the mere fact of their conduct.

At the same Time, he stressed that the issue of Europe's participation in the negotiation process falls under the competence of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, while the President of the European Council plays a supportive role. The introduction of a peaceful settlement must safeguard Ukraine's interests.

The chief Polish diplomat noted that despite the temporary victories of Russian troops, Putin's successes over three years of war are a failure for him. He mentioned that the Ukrainian fleet is destroying the Russian fleet at sea, and Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries are proving to be very effective. Meanwhile, Russia is losing many people and resources during the process of capturing settlements. The Polish Foreign Minister called on Europe to pursue a course to end the war to convince Putin that he is mistaken.

Sikorski emphasized that the main point is not Putin's participation in negotiations, but his withdrawal from Ukraine. He also noted that if Putin does not retreat, he could be brought before an international court. He underscored that the nature of the Russian regime and Putin's control over Russia is a problem, as Russia feels significant only with the continuation of the war. He called for an end to the bad war and for achieving peace.
