Poland changes rules for Ukrainians: what will happen to housing and the '800+' payments.
According to inkorr.com: Starting from November 1, 2025, new social support rules for Ukrainian refugees will come into effect in Poland, concerning free housing and payments under the '800+' program.
According to information from the Visit Ukraine website, the most significant change is the ending of the free accommodation program in collective living centers. Now most Ukrainians will have to pay for housing themselves, except for socially vulnerable groups who can obtain housing at a reduced price or for free.
Who will still get free housing
Only certain categories of refugees will be able to receive free accommodation, including children who receive '800+', pensioners with Polish pensions, persons with disabilities, women over 60 without pensions, pregnant women, single parents with children, students, and others. The rest of the Ukrainians will have to pay for housing out of their own pockets.
Changes in the '800+' program
The '800+' program providing financial assistance for children will still operate under the previous conditions, but new requirements introduced by the president will come into effect on June 1, 2026. To receive the payment, one must have official employment and an income of at least half of the minimum wage.
Until mid-2026, the program will operate under the old rules, however, experts recommend that people legalize their employment and confirm their children's education now to avoid problems with payments after the new regulations are introduced.
Salary levels in Poland
As of today, the minimum wage in Poland remains at 4,666 zlotys per month before taxes, while the average salary reached 8,769 zlotys in August 2025. Authorities explain these changes as a step towards a stable integration system for migrants aimed at promoting employment and maintaining protection for the most needy.
Thus, starting from November 1, 2025, new social support rules for Ukrainian refugees will be introduced in Poland, including changes in the provision of free housing and payments under the '800+' program. Most Ukrainians are obliged to pay for housing themselves, but socially vulnerable groups can get what they need under preferential conditions or for free. New requirements for receiving assistance under the '800+' program will come into effect on June 1, 2026. Ukrainians are advised to resolve issues regarding the legalization of their employment and education to avoid potential problems with payments.
