According to inkorr.com: On August 27, 2025, the birthday of the prominent Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko, his great-grandson Petro Halushchak passed away. He dedicated many years to preserving the memory of his famous ancestor.
Petro Halushchak died at the age of 71 after a long illness. This was reported by employees of the 'Franko House' museum and the director of the 'Nahuyevichi' reserve, Bohdan Lazorak.
The museum noted the significant role Halushchak played in its activities. He actively participated in events, conducted tours, and contributed to the replenishment of museum exhibits. 'Petro was a true friend of our museum,' his colleagues emphasized.
The Lviv Regional State Administration noted that Halushchak unhesitatingly devoted all his efforts to popularizing the work of Ivan Franko. 'He always infused his activities with love for Ukraine and its culture,' the institution noted.
The time of the funeral will be announced later.
Family and career
Petro Halushchak was a direct descendant of Ivan Franko: his mother Ivanna (Asya) Franko was the granddaughter of the writer. He was born on September 12, 1954, in Lviv and received a technical education in the field of information-measuring technology.
Halushchak worked as a senior engineer at the Institute of Geology and Geochemistry of Fuel Minerals of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, and later at various enterprises.
He had a wife and six sons. Petro Halushchak actively intervened in public life, helping to create the Lviv Union of Large Families 'Happy Family'.
Petro Halushchak, the great-grandson of Ivan Franko, left behind a legacy associated with the active defense of the memory of his great ancestor. His contribution to the popularization of Franko's works and active civic engagement play an important role in Ukraine's cultural life. Halushchak's legacy is not only his personal achievements but also a manifestation of deep respect for Ukrainian culture and traditions.
