Trump's trusted representatives may meet with Putin: a peace plan on the table at 90%.
According to ТСН: Representatives of Donald Trump — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — may visit us in the near future. The main goal of their visit is to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a peace agreement that should put an end to the war in Ukraine.
According to reliable information, the meeting could take place as early as this month, although final details have yet to be agreed upon. Significant factors may include events in Iran, where mass unrest is ongoing, as well as the Kremlin's position.
It is currently unknown how interested Putin will be in a repeat meeting with Trump’s representatives, which is the main obstacle to agree on a date. American and Ukrainian officials positively assess progress on a 20-point plan to cease hostilities. According to sources, the document is approximately 90% ready, but key disagreements remain unresolved.
The primary issue is territorial matters. The Kremlin insists on the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the territories of Donbas that have not been captured by Russia, demands recognition of the occupied territories as Russian, and opposes the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine. Ukraine, for its part, proposes to freeze the conflict along the existing line of confrontation or conduct mutual troop withdrawals to create a buffer zone.
Questions regarding control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and the fate of frozen assets of the Central Bank of Russia amounting to about 300 billion dollars also remain open.
What to expect from the meeting
It is expected that during the visit, American officials will convey the latest draft agreements to Putin. The discussion will concern security guarantees for Ukraine, monitoring the ceasefire regime, and mechanisms for responding to possible new attacks from Russia.
Kyiv hopes to finalize these agreements by the end of the month during the World Economic Forum in Davos, where Donald Trump will be present along with European leaders.
Washington has also prepared a package of additional sanctions in case Russia refuses the peace agreement. Trump, while expressing a cool attitude towards Putin, is ready to increase pressure on Moscow to achieve results.
At the same time, the European Union seeks to move towards a peace settlement initiative in the war in Ukraine to prevent the dictation of terms from Washington.
The meeting of Donald Trump's representatives with Vladimir Putin may become an important step towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. Despite the difficulties and disagreements that remain unresolved, both sides hope to find a compromise that will bring us closer to stability in the region. Events in the coming days will be key to the development of the situation.
