Volodymyr Zelenskyy Meets with NATO Secretary General

According to UATV: During a meeting in Brussels, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte focused on bolstering Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. Discussions centered on the critical role of air defense in safeguarding the country. Zelenskyy stressed that securing a license from the United States to produce missiles is essential for enhancing Ukraine's defense capacity.

Zelenskyy stated: 'We discussed the items we agreed to implement with partners during the G7 summit. The top priority is working to strengthen our defense and obtaining licenses from the U.S. to manufacture air defense systems.'

He also highlighted the urgent need for rapid deliveries of anti-ballistic missiles, emphasizing their importance in protecting Ukrainian lives. 'We talked about replenishing the PURL with new contributions. This program is vital for saving lives, and it is crucial that shipments of anti-ballistic missiles arrive as quickly as possible,' the president added.

Next Steps and International Support

As part of the engagement, further talks are scheduled with the defense ministers of the United Kingdom and Germany, along with a meeting in the Ramstein format. Zelenskyy noted: 'These are important days for strengthening our defense: meetings with the UK and German defense ministers, a Ramstein-format session, and a European Council meeting are coming up. Thank you to everyone who helps and supports us. Europe must be strong and united. How this war ends largely depends on that.'

For his part, Mark Rutte underscored the pivotal role of the United States in supporting Ukraine, stating: 'The U.S. and President Donald Trump play a crucial role in backing Ukraine.' The Brussels meeting thus marked a significant step in deepening Ukraine’s defense cooperation with its international partners.

This high-level dialogue underscores the importance of sustained global backing for Ukraine amid the ongoing armed conflict. Enhancing air defense systems and obtaining missile production licenses could substantially improve the country’s defensive posture. Collaboration with NATO and other allies remains critically important for ensuring regional security and forging a united front against external threats.
