Purchase term and company structure changes
Customers will have only two weeks to shop on the Poundland website, as from September 16 it will be available for viewing only.
Moreover, from September 16, the company will cancel its loyalty program Poundland Perks. Customers registered in the program will have until January 15, 2026, to use their bonus vouchers.
Poundland, which has 14,700 employees and 800 stores, is undergoing significant restructuring after a sale in June.
The new owners, Gordon Brothers, who acquired the chain for £1, plan to invest £90 million to save the business.
Future Plans
In their plan, they foresee the closure of 68 stores and the reduction of 1,000 jobs, as well as the closure of two warehouses, which will affect 350 employees.
Online sales will also be halted, and rent in unprofitable stores will be reduced.
Additionally, the chain plans to increase the number of items priced at one pound, as well as to introduce a pricing system of £1, £2, £3 on products across all stores.
These innovations will be implemented gradually by September in all Poundland stores in the UK.
Poundland has already held several sales in stores in recent months, where discounts reached up to 90%, preparing for the closure of 68 branches nationwide.
The sales before the website closure provide customers the opportunity to buy seasonal items at favorable prices; however, the company has been under pressure from economic changes, which may affect the future of the chain. The restructuring plans from the new owners are causing concern among employees and consumers, but the investments could be a chance for business recovery.
