Poundland cancels closure of 11 stores: which ones will continue to operate.
Explanation of changes in the closure of Poundland stores
According to The Sun: Poundland has announced that 11 stores which were initially planned for closure will remain open.
The retailer planned to close 68 stores as part of a restructuring but decided to halt closures for the mentioned locations.
GettySo far, 57 stores have already been closed as part of this program, with another six set to close on September 28.
However, the company has had a change of heart regarding the stores in Rivergate Centre in Irvine, on London Road in Brighton, and on Great Western Road in Anniesland, which were slated for closure. The store in Irvine has already reopened following a stock replenishment.
The closure in Whitby has also been canceled after a temporary agreement with the landlord.
Despite these changes, the company still intends to reduce its network to 650-700 stores in the future, down from approximately 800 at the beginning of the restructuring.
Barry Williams, managing director of Poundland, stated: “We aim to create a simpler, more focused Poundland that delivers on its promise of incredible value for customers.”
He also added: “We appreciate the support we've received from suppliers, landlords, and other partners who have been fully informed of our plans to get back on track.”
“Although there is much work ahead, I am confident that Poundland, focused on the simple value our customers expect, has a bright future.”
As part of the restructuring, Poundland is simplifying its pricing strategy for general merchandise and clothing, reducing the number of price points and offering clearer value.
The retailer aims to win back customers by keeping its promise of great value.
List of stores that will remain open
- Irvine’s Rivergate Centre
- Brighton (London Road)
- Anniesland (Great Western Road)
- Whitby
Poundland's decision to keep some stores open reflects the company's willingness to respond to market demands and support its customers. The continuation of these locations may improve product availability for shoppers and contribute to rebuilding brand trust. At the same time, the company continues to work on reducing the size of its network to optimize costs, which could impact its competitiveness in the future.
