Recovery of Three Poundland Stores

According to The Sun: Poundland has managed to save three stores that were slated to close this week.

The retailer struck new lease agreements in Livingston, Musselburgh, and Porthcawl to keep them open.

These stores began a major clearance campaign in preparation for their closure under the restructuring plan.

They are currently closed but plan to reopen later this month.

Store Reopening Dates

The stores will reopen on the following dates:

  • Porthcawl, 78/80 John Street, Porthcawl, CF36 3BD, October 11, 2025
  • Livingston, Unit 43F, Almondvale South, Livingston, EH54 6NB, October 13, 2025
  • Musselburgh, 176B The High Street, Musselburgh, EH21 7DZ, October 17, 2025

Three other Poundland stores will also start major sales this week in preparation for closure.

The stores in Andover, Blackpool, and Sidcup are offering discounts of up to 40%, with items being sold at reduced prices prior to their clearance sale.

These stores will close on October 22, October 25, and November 14, respectively.

Closure of Other Stores

Sales will cover all products in each store: from household goods to groceries, clothing, and health and beauty items.

Poundland completed the closure of 68 stores last month, shutting down 57 by September 28.

Stores in Twickenham, Leicester, and Burnley are already closed.

Further closures in Leicester, Walsall, and Carlisle are planned for October and November.

The retail chain hopes to operate around 650-700 stores compared to 800 at the start of the restructuring program.

The company avoided bankruptcy after its plan was approved by the Supreme Court in August.

After being sold to private investment firm Gordon Brothers in June, the company announced plans to invest £90 million into the business.

However, 1,000 employees out of 14,700 will be laid off, and two warehouses will close, affecting 350 workers.

Other Changes at Poundland

Customers can no longer use the Poundland website to purchase products.

The Poundland Perks loyalty scheme has also been discontinued.

Program customers have until January 15, 2026, to redeem their bonus vouchers.

The chain will also close its frozen and digital distribution center in Darton, South Yorkshire, later this year.

The national distribution center in Bilston will close in early 2026.

The store closures and company reorganization are taking the company back to its roots, increasing the number of £1 products it sells.

The discount retailer guarantees that 60% of food products will be sold for £1.

In the coming months, Poundland plans to simplify its pricing policy across its product range, reducing the number of price categories and offering more focused assortment solutions.

This will enable customers to get more value from the products offered.

Poundland's Retail Director Darren McDonald noted:

“Special discounts, along with the value we offer in every store, will help us finish our time with the places we leave with pride.”

“And when we close our doors, we look forward to reopening them for customers in one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we will continue to operate.”
The reopening of three Poundland stores reflects the company's efforts to adapt to challenging market conditions. By combining sales with strategic changes, the retail chain is trying to preserve its position and meet customer needs. Despite plans to close other stores, the focus on budget-friendly pricing may help the company attract a new audience and maintain its competitiveness.
