Poundland unexpectedly closes another store in Birmingham: what is known.
Poundland closes another store in Birmingham
According to The Sun: After Poundland confirmed the closure of 48 stores this week, it became known that one of the popular stores in Birmingham will also close its doors.
This occurred following the publication of the list of closures of 48 Poundland stores. The company is undergoing a significant restructuring during which a total of 68 stores will be closed by mid-October.
Poundland unexpectedly closed yet another store in Birmingham.
Among the already closed branches in Birmingham are the stores in Kings Heath and Sheldon since August 24, as well as in Erdington since August 31. Although the well-known Selly Oak Battery Retail Park was not previously mentioned in the list, it has now ceased operations.
The closure of the store was announced through signs in the windows stating 'sorry, this store is now closed.'
Urban areas are not the only places where Poundland stores are closing. Across the UK, 12 stores will cease operations this week.
A sale with a 75% discount is ongoing until the closure. According to The Sun, the bargain retailer is preparing to close stores in Newcastle, Salford, Canterbury, and Coventry by the end of this week.
Currently, Poundland has over 800 stores across the country, but the company plans to significantly reduce their number to 650-700.
Restructuring Plans
Pepco Group has owned the chain of stores since 2016. Following an auction sale in March, the new owner became the American investment firm Gordon Brothers for £1.
The restructuring plans include closing some stores, raising £80 million in capital, and closing the frozen goods and digital distribution center in Darton, South Yorkshire, later this year.
Poundland continues to undertake restructuring, which has led to the closure of some stores and a capital increase. The popular chain plans to significantly reduce the number of its branches in the future.
