According to inkorr.com: The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine reported the launch of the first direct passenger trains via the European Railway from Uzhhorod to European cities such as Bratislava, Budapest, and Vienna.

Start of ticket sales

Ticket sales for the new trains began on September 5, the day the new section of the European railway between Chop and Uzhhorod was opened. This project became the first in Ukraine's history, implemented from scratch and completed in less than a year, despite the war and numerous difficulties.

Project financing

The project was financed by the European Commission (under the Connected Europe Facility program) and the European Investment Bank in cooperation with Ukrzaliznytsia and the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

Future plans

Starting from December 2025, according to the ministry, passengers will be able to take advantage of convenient connections with domestic flights. The new route No. 644/647 Zahony - Berehove - Borzhava will also be launched, facilitating the connection between Berehove and Zahony, an important transfer hub.

“The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine announced the departure of the first direct passenger trains via the European Railway from Uzhhorod to European cities - Bratislava, Budapest, and Vienna. The government also announced convenient connections to local flights and the launch of a new route that will simplify the connection of Berehove with Zahony.”

The launch of direct passenger trains via the European Railway is an important step in the development of Ukraine's transport infrastructure, which opens new travel opportunities. With new routes and connections, Ukrainians will be able to travel more easily to European cities, improving connectivity between countries and promoting tourism.
