The government has decided that medicines under the 'Affordable Medicines' program will be available at any pharmacy. This was announced by Health Minister Viktor Lyashko. All pharmacy institutions will be required to sign a reimbursement agreement with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU). This decision will become mandatory from July 1, 2025, and the pharmacy business has Time to prepare for this change.

Starting in 2025, the 'Affordable Medicines' program will expand and become the largest since its launch in 2017. Over 30 new active substances will be added to the program, complementing the existing 75. Among the innovations are combined medicines for the treatment of cardiovascular, rheumatological, neurological, ophthalmic, and endocrinological diseases, as well as medications for children in the form of drops, ointments, and other preparations.

The main goal is to ensure the availability of the program in every corner of the country. This year, steps have already been taken to improve access to medicines. All pharmacies located within medical institutions are required to participate in the 'Affordable Medicines' program. If a patient is refused the dispensing of medicines under the program at a pharmacy, they can contact the NHSU hotline.

For residents of remote and frontline territories, medicine delivery is available through Ukrpost, and mobile pharmacy points operate in 13 regions of Ukraine. The 'Affordable Medicines' reimbursement program allows people with chronic diseases to obtain necessary medications free of charge or with partial payment, easing the financial burden on patients.

This program continues to operate even during martial law, and the number of users is increasing each year. Currently, it is used by nearly 5 million Ukrainians.
