Europe shifts to electric vehicles: gasoline car sales fall by 16%.
According to inkorr.com: The European Union has recorded an increase in interest in new cars over the past month. This information was disclosed by Ukravtoprom, citing data from ACEA.
In August 2025, the sales volume of new cars in the European market increased by 5.3% compared to last year: approximately 678 thousand cars were registered. However, the demand for cars with traditional engines has decreased.
The distribution of new registrations by types of powertrains is as follows:
- Hybrid cars have become the leaders with a figure of about 230 thousand units, showing a growth of 14%.
- Gasoline engine cars took second place with 178 thousand registrations, but their demand decreased by 16%.
- Fully electric cars reached nearly 121 thousand registrations, marking an impressive growth of 30%.
- Plug-in hybrids showed the highest growth rate of 55%, reaching over 70 thousand units.
- Diesel cars decreased by 17% to approximately 59 thousand registrations.
- Other types of engines accounted for about 19 thousand units with a slight increase of 2%.
Over eight months of 2025, total sales of new passenger cars in the EU decreased by 0.1%, reaching 7,168,848 units. It was also previously reported about the most reliable German cars on the road.
The European automotive market is witnessing a positive growth trend in demand for new cars, especially hybrid and electric models, while interest in cars with traditional engines is declining. This indicates a gradual evolution of the market towards environmentally friendly technologies and a growing awareness among consumers regarding environmental issues.
