Putin plans to regain control of the Kursk region
According to the British resource The Telegraph, Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to regain control of the Kursk region by January 20, before the inauguration of the new US President Donald Trump.
For this purpose, Putin has sent 50,000 Russian and North Korean troops to the region. NATO members believe that these actions are aimed at occupying the territory before the start of Trump's presidency.
According to British military intelligence, Russia plans to intensify attacks on Ukrainian positions using kamikaze drones, using new launch sites near the border.
In addition, Putin has deployed 12,000 North Korean conscripts who will participate in combat operations in the Kursk region under the pact of mutual military assistance between Russia and the DPRK.
Ukrainian analysts warn that the Kremlin may organize a counterattack in the Kursk region to advance further towards the Sumy region.
Currently, Russia controls approximately half of the territories seized by the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the operation in August.
Western diplomats are concerned that Putin will try to quickly capture the Kursk region before the start of Trump's presidency to gain advantages in peace negotiations.
The Telegraph also reports that after the start of the counteroffensive in the Kursk region, Russia has made more attacks on the front line. Even in October, Russian troops occupied more territory than in any month since mid-2022.
