The Verkhovna Rada rejected the introduction of the tax on expensive cars

176 deputies voted for the adoption of bill No. 1868 in its first reading, with a minimum requirement of 226.

The explanatory note to the document states that the changes introduced by the Law of Ukraine 'On Amendments to the Tax Code of Ukraine and Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Tax Reform' dated December 28, 2014 No. 71-VIII do not comply with the principles of fair taxation.

In particular, the latest changes established that vehicles with a gasoline engine capacity of more than 3,000 cc are subject to taxation.
Diesel - over 2.5 thousand cc.
Not older than 5 years.
'However, such taxation affects the segment of mid-range cars,' the authors of the bill noted. 'The current system ... defines the same fee of 25,000 UAH for cars of different classes, values, engine capacities, and power. In addition, a number of premium models'
, such as Porsche Cayenne, Bentley, and others, with a value exceeding 100,000 euros, have engines less than 3 liters and therefore will not be taxed at all.'
The authors proposed a new formula system that, in their opinion, would give 'the opportunity to implement a differentiated approach to tax calculation, eliminating any corruption risks and taking into account the main objective indicators of the vehicle: its value (established by catalog or in the showroom), engine capacity, power'

As reported by Korrespondent.net, four additional taxes are being introduced for vehicle owners starting January 1, 2015.

During the voting in the Verkhovna Rada, the bill on the introduction of the tax on expensive cars was rejected. This happened because the proposed taxation system did not consider fairness principles and potential corruption risks. Instead, deputies need to work on improving fiscal reforms to ensure a more fair and effective taxation system in the country.
