British Minister for Africa and the UN, Rehman Chishti, stated during a UN Security Council meeting that Russia is not taking the prospect of a lasting ceasefire in Ukraine seriously. Chishti believes that Putin's announcement of a temporary ceasefire is hollow, as even during Easter, when there was a 30-hour break in hostilities, the ceasefire was not respected. The minister urged Russia to declare a lasting ceasefire immediately, not just for 72 hours, as Ukraine is ready for a full and lasting ceasefire. Chishti emphasized that if Putin were genuinely committed to a lasting ceasefire, he would have already acted. He also added that the UK supports Ukraine in countering Russian aggression and that the world must unequivocally support Ukraine along with their allies and partners.
