Germany’s Justice Minister Arrives in Kyiv with a New Cooperation Program Aimed at EU Integration.
Steffi Hubig’s Visit to Kyiv
According to UATV: On June 26, 2023, Steffi Hubig, Germany’s Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, traveled to Kyiv to mark the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Constitution. During the visit, a new legal cooperation program between Ukraine and Germany is set to be signed. This initiative is designed to support reforms in Ukraine and advance the country’s path toward membership in the European Union.
Support for Ukraine
Hubig underscored the critical need to stand by Ukraine amid ongoing challenges.
“We will support Ukraine in defending its freedom on the international stage—repelling the Russian invasion and working toward a just peace. We will also support Ukraine in strengthening the rule of law domestically—helping it implement the foundations of its Constitution: human rights guarantees, the rule of law, and the separation of powers,” said Steffi Hubig.
This visit and the signing of the program highlight the deepening bilateral ties between Germany and Ukraine, as well as their joint commitment to upholding human rights and the rule of law in Ukraine.
Strengthening legal cooperation between Ukraine and Germany is especially significant given the current geopolitical climate. Germany’s backing for Ukraine’s reform efforts could ease the country’s integration into European institutions and promote regional stability. It also reflects the continued international support for Ukraine in its struggle for sovereignty and democratic values.
