According to The Sun: Paul Gascoigne, a Rangers club legend, recounted a horrific incident involving his ex-wife Cheryl that occurred during a holiday at the luxurious Gleneagles hotel in Scotland in 1996. The event happened just a few months after their wedding.

Gascoigne recalls how his teammates influenced the club to have him dismissed. However, coach Walter Smith supported Gascoigne, and he remained on the team.
'This incident at Gleneagles left a dark shadow over my life, and my relationship with Cheryl was never the same again, despite brief attempts at reconciliation,' he concluded.
Gascoigne and Cheryl sold the rights to photographs from their wedding to Hello! magazine.
