Car Reliability Rating 2025: Which Japanese Models Have the Most Problems.
According to inkorr.com: The organization Consumer Reports has released the reliability rating of cars for the year 2025, where some results contradict the traditional perception of the quality of Japanese manufacturers. Although Japanese companies such as Subaru, Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Acura, and Mazda remain the leaders in the overall ranking, individual models from these brands demonstrate low reliability ratings.
Least Reliable Models
The least reliable Japanese cars in 2025 are the plug-in hybrid versions of the Mazda CX-90 and CX-70. These models received the lowest scores among all Japanese cars included in the study. Experts found that plug-in hybrid versions have 70% more issues with powertrains compared to other versions of the models, due to the greater number of components in the design, which increases the likelihood of breakdowns.
Issues with reliability were also found in the Toyota Tacoma, which after the release of the new generation in 2024 started losing its positions. Similar difficulties concern the Nissan Frontier after the redesign in 2022. Honda and Infiniti models also made it to the anti-rating due to the deterioration of their characteristics.
Summary
The Consumer Reports study emphasizes the importance of an objective approach when choosing a car, as even well-known Japanese brands can offer products with quality issues. This year, Toyota, Nissan, and Infiniti recalled over a million cars due to operational defects, indicating that no manufacturer is immune to reliability problems.
The results of the rating confirm that even traditionally reliable manufacturers can have models with flaws. The study highlights the importance of careful analysis before purchasing a car, as even market leaders may face reliability issues.
