Chris Hayes will take Jim Crowley's place in the Irish Champion Stakes

According to The Sun: Chris Hayes has been invited to ride Owen Burrows' horse - the star Anmaat in the Irish Champion Stakes.

This move comes as a result of Jim Crowley's injury, which saw him break his leg and pelvis after a serious fall at York on Sunday.

Crowley, 47, underwent surgery on Monday morning and is now facing a long recovery period.

This situation has left the owners of Shadwell, for whom Crowley was the main jockey, searching for replacements for the remainder of the season. Hayes, in turn, will have the opportunity to compete for a major prize at Leopardstown on Saturday.

Chris, 38, previously worked with Irish Shadwell and even won the Irish 2,000 Guineas on the horse Awtaad in 2016.

The classy Anmaat, who won the Champion Stakes at Ascot last year, has odds of 8-1 for the Irish version of the race this weekend.

Burrows noted:

“Chris Hayes is riding this weekend. There is a forecast of a lot of rain, which will suit him as he loves it when the ground is soft.”

“The horse is doing very well at home. He showed a great run in the Prince Of Wales’s on Defender earlier this year when the ground was quicker than he liked.”

“It is a short straight at Leopardstown, but he has a great turn of foot that could prove decisive.”

Crowley was riding William Haggas' favorite Almuftah in the Listed Garrowby Stakes at York when his fall occurred. This led to an incident involving Tiger Bay, ridden by Trevor Whelan. After the fall, the race was halted while both jockeys received medical assistance on-site and were subsequently taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

Whelan wrote on social media that he broke his leg in three places. Shadwell's racing manager, Angus Gold, confirmed that Crowley also suffered serious injuries:

“Jim is not in very good shape.”

“He is currently undergoing surgery, we believe he has broken his leg and pelvis, but we have not heard anything more.”

“It was a frightening moment. It is too early to talk about who might ride, we haven't even sat down to discuss it yet.”

This incident is a serious blow to the jockey community, as Crowley is one of the most renowned jockeys in Ireland. His injury will significantly impact the Shadwell team, which has long relied on his racing expertise. Hayes now has to make the most of this opportunity to prove his reputation in the big race.
