New US sanctions against Russia: what the Republican bill involves.
Sanctions against Russia under threat
According to inkorr.com: The US Congress is actively discussing the implementation of new sanctions against Russia, despite skepticism from President Donald Trump. Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick are preparing a bill that stipulates tough restrictions. This document has not yet been considered.
According to Bild, the authors of the bill plan to 'tie' it to a package of emergency government funding to avoid it being ignored by lawmakers.
The initiators noted: 'We will reach out to our colleagues from both parties to join this initiative and support freedom against tyranny.' Earlier attempts to implement similar projects in the Senate or House of Representatives faced resistance from leadership, which was unwilling to support them.
Trump opposes new sanctions and proposes imposing tariffs on imports from India, which is the second largest buyer of Russian oil after China. The bill by Graham and Fitzpatrick also stipulates secondary sanctions against countries that continue to buy energy resources from Russia, including China and India. If the Republicans manage to include this bill in the budget package, Congress will be obliged to consider it even against the will of the White House.
Debates in Congress indicate significant tension in US-Russia relations, as well as divided approaches to the issue of sanctions in the American legislative body.
It is important to note that such disputes over sanctions reflect a broader context of international relations, where US positions are becoming increasingly fragmented. If the bill is passed, it could significantly change the dynamics of interaction between states that continue to cooperate with Russia and US efforts to isolate Moscow on the international stage.
