Epidemic of Shoplifting in Retail
According to The Sun: There is an epidemic of theft in retail, especially during the holiday season. Daily, 810 cases are recorded that remain unsolved. According to a study by the House of Commons Library, 295,589 cases were closed without identifying a suspect last year. This is more than half of the 530,439 recorded thefts, and this figure has increased by 65% compared to the previous 12 months.
Research shows that the vast majority of thefts go unpunished.
This alarming trend requires urgent attention as retail struggles to manage the costs and consequences of crime. The rise in theft cases not only negatively impacts business profitability but also undermines consumer trust in retail outlets.
