Russia destabilizes Germany: cyberattacks and disinformation ahead of elections.

German intelligence services have warned about the threat of Russian interference ahead of the Bundestag elections on February 23.

According to analytical reports, Russia allocates up to two billion euros each year for disinformation campaigns. These funds are used to create fake accounts, forge news sites, and spread false messages aimed at discrediting German politicians and supporting pro-Kremlin parties.

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) reported attempts to hack websites and servers containing voter data.

The former head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution noted that Russia uses the entire arsenal of means, including interference in political debates and cyberattacks on critical infrastructure and acts of sabotage.

The deputy head of the CDU/CSU faction called on the government to discuss countermeasures at the next meeting of the interior affairs committee.

Restrictions on intelligence services hinder the fight against interference. They do not have the powers to block fake accounts and websites.

A source reported that intelligence services are ready to stop Russian sources of disinformation, but currently, it is impossible.
