Russia has lost its largest naval base in the Mediterranean Sea.

Russia has lost its permanent naval base in the Mediterranean Sea due to changes in the political situation in Syria. The ousting of President Bashar al-Assad was a key moment in this process.

Syria is definitively lost

According to the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Navy, Russian ships in the Mediterranean region no longer have a permanent base. They can make stops for refueling and resupplying in some countries, but they have lost Syria.

'They are still received for bunkering in several countries: Egypt, Algeria, but in any case, this is not the presence of a naval base. This allows only to enter and replenish supplies: food, water, and fuel, and that's it. Therefore, this is a problem for them, although they are still present there.'

It is also noted that Russia cannot regain control over Syria by force, as this would lead to conflict with NATO countries. Recently, Trump lifted sanctions, and there was an Israeli strike on the palace in Damascus.

As a result of changes in the political situation in Syria, Russia has lost its naval base in the Mediterranean Sea. Now their ships can only make stops to replenish supplies in other countries, but the situation in the region remains tense, as Russia's actions could provoke conflict with other states.
