Russia launched Geran-5: a new threat with a speed of 600 km/h

According to ТСН: The enemy is adapting to Ukrainian methods of combating 'Shaheds'. After an unsuccessful attempt to use the reactive 'Geran-3', the Russians decided to launch a more powerful weapon – 'Geran-5'.

Military expert in the field of electronic warfare and communication, Serhiy 'Flash' Beskrestnov, shared his analysis of the new model on his Telegram channel.

Why 'Geran-5' appeared

According to the expert, the previous version – 'Shahed' ('Geran-3') – did not meet Kremlin expectations. Its cruising speed (290-330 km/h) was insufficient, which is why Ukrainian anti-air drones successfully intercepted these targets.

So, Russia developed 'Geran-5', which looks like a missile.

Main characteristics:

  • Speed: 500-600 km/h. This speed makes it inaccessible for helicopters and existing anti-air drones. Mobile fire groups are also unable to cope with this type of target.

  • Range: up to 1500 km (with a standard charge of 50 kg) or 1000 km (with an enhanced charge of 90 kg). This covers the entire territory of Ukraine.

  • Altitude: up to 6 kilometers.

Launch from an aircraft

A feature of 'Geran-5' is the possibility of being dropped from a reactive carrier aircraft.

“This increases the flight range, flight speed (especially in the front-line zone) and provides maneuvering capabilities (launch from any point, not just from known locations),” explains 'Flash'.

Filling and threats

The expert confirms the presence of satellite navigation systems and an active altimeter in 'Geran-5' (like in planning bombs UMPB-5R). The complete composition of electronics will only be known after analyzing the debris.

Serhiy Beskrestnov notes that the degree of threat from this weapon will depend on two factors:

  1. The pace of development of Ukrainian anti-air drones.

  2. The ratio of the production cost of 'Geran-5' to its actual effectiveness on the battlefield.

In addition, Iran has introduced a new kamikaze drone Hadid-110, which, according to state media and technical descriptions, can achieve speeds of up to 510 km/h.

The development of the new 'Geran-5' highlights the ongoing improvement of drones used in modern conflicts. This weapon can significantly change the strategic balance, and Ukraine will have to adapt its defensive tactics to new challenges. Observing the developments, it is important to maintain attention to innovations that continue to appear on the battlefield.
