According to The Sun: Ricky Hatton expressed concern that 59-year-old Mike Tyson could become a "human target" in his bout against Floyd Mayweather.

Famous American boxers announced an exhibition fight scheduled for spring 2026, although the date and location have yet to be determined.

Mayweather, who is 11 years younger, appears to be in great shape, competing in a lighter weight class than Tyson.

Fans are seriously worried about Tyson considering his recent health issues, including a ruptured ulcer before last year's fight against Jake Paul.

Ricky Hatton's Comments

Hatton, a 46-year-old Manchester City fan, shared his thoughts in an interview:

“Under normal circumstances, given the size difference, you would probably be more worried about Floyd. But I think it's the other way around.”
“I don't think Mike can get close to him, and frankly, he will be a human target.”
“Mike is approaching sixty, and you saw his last fight – he is clearly not in that shape anymore.”
“If Mike somehow hits Floyd and knocks him down, people will say: ‘Look at the size difference, that shouldn’t have happened’.”
“But if Floyd boxes and uses him as a target, everyone will say: ‘We knew that would happen’. There is nothing positive in this, except for the money, which obviously is all they are thinking about.”

Hatton also noted that both boxers face mental health issues and addiction, especially after their careers end when the adrenaline and recognition of professional sports fade away.

After retiring in 2009, Hatton had a comeback in 2012 and then fought Marco Antonio Barrera in 2022, and is now preparing for a fight in Dubai in December against another 48-year-old boxer.

Boxing Remains in His Life

Ricky emphasized that he has understanding for Tyson:

“I have been a boxer everywhere, you can't just switch that off. I'm sure he is the same.”
“I found a way to cope with retirement – I coach and participate in events to stay busy, but you still miss the sport.”
Although the exhibition fight between Mayweather and Tyson is still a long way off, Ricky Hatton's comments highlight concerns about the physical condition of 59-year-old Tyson. It is a reminder of the challenges faced by many retired athletes when they end their careers. Their lives change significantly, and while boxing remains an important part, the pressure on health and mental well-being can be serious.
