Who Qualifies for the 15 Million Hryvnia Payout to Families of Fallen Soldiers?.
Financial Support for Families of Deceased Military Personnel
According to Novyny.live: The Ukrainian government provides financial assistance to the families of service members who die in the line of duty. A total of 15 million hryvnias will be allocated, with distribution depending on whether the deceased soldier left a personal directive. This compensation is intended for relatives of those who lost their lives while performing official duties.
The one-time payment amounts to 15 million hryvnias. If a personal directive exists, the funds go specifically to the individuals named in it. As Oleksandra Kapitula explained,
“if such a directive has been drawn up, the funds are paid precisely to the persons indicated in it”. A mandatory share must be set aside for minor children, underage children, adult disabled children, disabled widows or widowers, and disabled parents of the deceased.
“Regardless of the content of the personal directive, the right to receive the one-time financial assistance belongs to minor children, underage children, adult disabled children, a disabled widow or widower, and the disabled parents of the deceased individual”, Kapitula added.
Conditions and Grounds for Payment
In the absence of a personal directive, the assistance is divided equally among the deceased’s family members, parents, and dependents. However, there are grounds for denying payment. These include:
- commission of a criminal offense;
- alcohol or drug intoxication;
- suicide;
- submission of false information.
Specifically, Kapitula noted,
“for example, if death resulted from a criminal or administrative offense, actions under the influence of alcohol or drugs, intentional self-harm, other damage to one’s own health, or suicide”.
The list of individuals entitled to a share of the payment includes:
- the deceased’s spouse;
- children (including adopted ones);
- parents (unless their parental rights have been terminated);
- grandchildren (if their own parents are deceased);
- a common-law partner (provided cohabitation is confirmed).
It is important to note that a family cannot receive the status of a deceased soldier’s family if the service member is classified as missing in action. Thus, state support for the families of fallen military personnel is a key element of social policy, aimed at helping them cope with the aftermath of their loss.
This financial assistance program for families of deceased soldiers underscores the government’s commitment to supporting those who have suffered losses due to the conflict. It not only provides monetary aid but also highlights the importance of social equity for families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. The clear criteria for eligibility further demonstrate the state’s effort to ensure fair distribution of resources among affected families.
