According to The Sun: Snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan will not participate in the English Open.

This prestigious tournament with a prize pool of £100,000 takes place just a few minutes from Chigwell, where Ronnie once lived.

The seven-time world champion was not included in the draw published by the World Snooker Federation.

This means that the 2017 English Open winner will not be able to compete, despite the tournament being held in Brandford.

O'Sullivan's decision to skip the tournament was a result of his earlier non-participation in the Wuhan Open after reaching the final of the Saudi Arabia Championships last month.

At that time, he lost to Neil Robertson in a thrilling final 10-9, who defends the title of the English Open.

Meanwhile, Luca Brecel may have a chance to play against the snooker legend at the English Open.

The 30-year-old Brecel could play against six-time world finalist, Jimmy White in the second round next week.

However, first the Belgian player must get through the qualifiers for the Northern Ireland Open, which will take place in Leicester on Sunday.

There he will meet Liam Davis.

This decision became known after Brecel's impressive performance in his qualifying matches at the Xian Grand Prix.

The former world number 2 faces disciplinary sanctions for not participating in this match.

Ronnie O'Sullivan's absence from the English Open has caused considerable controversy among snooker fans. His decision to skip the tournament may affect the results of the competition, as 'The Rocket' remains one of the most prominent figures in the sport. Meanwhile, Brecel and other young players have the opportunity to showcase themselves on the big stage, which could change the balance of power in the snooker world.
