Russia Attacks Ukraine's Gas Pipelines: How It Will Affect Heating Supply.
Russian Attacks on Gas Pipelines in Ukraine
According to inkorr.com: Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolesnyk reported that Russia has begun an offensive against certain gas transmission facilities that supply gas to Ukrainian cities. He announced this information at the forum 'The Energy that Supports Ukraine'.
'We see that the enemy has begun to attack certain facilities, I will not name them, from which the distribution of natural gas to specific settlements depends,' Kolesnyk said.
He clarified that these facilities are not strategic, but the enemy may try to reduce the capacity of gas transportation to key heating supply facilities.
Strengthening the Protection of Gas Pipelines
In response to the attacks, physical protection of gas transmission facilities has been strengthened to defend against possible enemy actions. Kolesnyk also noted that Ukraine plans to import large volumes of gas to compensate for losses due to the attacks on extraction.
'The enemy does not intend to retreat, we have received over six strikes since the beginning of October, and we have to fend them off,' he emphasized.
Despite efforts to fill underground gas storage ahead of the heating season to 99.5%, Ukraine still relies on imports due to reduced extraction. It was planned to pump 13.2 billion cubic meters of gas.
