Why the Kharkiv-Sumy Highway Near Bohodukhiv Is Under Threat: Russia’s Latest Attacks.
Strikes on a Key Transport Link
According to Novyny.live: Russian forces are intensifying their assaults on the vital road connecting Kharkiv and Sumy. The most vulnerable section lies near Bohodukhiv, just 20 kilometers from the state border. Ukrainian troops are working hard to defend this highway, which plays a critical role in regional logistics and military supply lines.
These attacks on transportation infrastructure have escalated in recent days. On June 6 and 7, Russian forces shelled Kharkiv and 17 settlements across Kharkiv Oblast. The strikes killed one man in the Derhachi community and wounded five others. Local authorities have been forced to rethink logistics and tighten security measures across the region as a result.
Current Situation in the Region
Oleksiy Hetman describes the situation as tense:
“Any roads, any of our locations, any settlements within a distance of less than 50 kilometers are, unfortunately, in danger.”
He also expressed confidence in a possible counterstrike:
“They are not scaling up... I am sure we will launch a counterstrike and they will stop.”
Given the circumstances, the highest-risk zone remains around Bohodukhiv, where enemy shelling threatens both civilians and military assets. Securing this transport corridor is essential for maintaining logistics and supporting the local population amid the ongoing conflict.
Attacks on Ukraine’s transport infrastructure are part of Russia’s broader strategy to destabilize the region and disrupt the delivery of military and humanitarian supplies. The situation in Kharkiv Oblast highlights the urgent need to protect critical roadways, which could shape the overall course of the war. As tensions rise, local officials and the military must take every necessary step to ensure public safety and preserve supply chains.
