Russian Strikes Target Dnipro, Kyiv, and Odesa, Damaging Homes and Infrastructure.
Ukrainian Cities Come Under Attack
According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of February 12, Russian forces launched attacks on the Ukrainian cities of Dnipro, Kyiv, and Odesa. These strikes resulted in fires and significant damage to residential buildings and critical infrastructure. The assault on Dnipro caused a fire and damaged private homes and cars. Oleksandr Ganzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, reported on the aftermath, stating:
“As a result of the enemy attack, private houses and cars were damaged in one of the city's districts. A fire broke out. Preliminary information indicates there were no casualties.” - Oleksandr Ganzha
Residents in Dnipro also reported disruptions to electricity and heating supplies, though this has not been officially confirmed. These attacks are part of a wider pattern of strikes on urban centers, which have intensified since the full-scale invasion began nearly two years ago. On the same night, other cities were also hit. In Kyiv, a residential building and non-residential structures were damaged, while in Odesa, an infrastructure facility and a business center sustained impacts.
Impact on the Civilian Population
These events underscore the ongoing and severe tensions between Ukraine and Russia. The shelling not only inflicts damage on civilian infrastructure but also heightens fear and insecurity among the population. The targeting of major cities like Kyiv and Odesa suggests a shift in Russian military tactics, aimed at increasing pressure on the Ukrainian government and society by disrupting daily life far from the front lines. In the context of the ongoing war, the readiness of Ukrainian emergency services to respond to such threats and ensure public safety remains critically important.
