Guided Bombs Strike Sumy: Who Is at Risk and Where Are the Shelters?.
What’s Happening in Sumy
According to Espreso.tv: War correspondent Alona Yatsyna has reported fresh strikes on Sumy, resulting in damage and civilian injuries. For the second straight week, guided aerial bombs (KABs) have been hitting the city again, primarily targeting the Kovpak district and industrial sites on the outskirts. As attacks become routine, the city faces a critical shortfall: there are virtually no shelters available for the civilian population.
On June 28, Sumy endured a wave of strikes that destroyed industrial and warehouse facilities. One consequence was a drone strike on the roof of a residential building, leaving a woman injured. Yatsyna noted that 'unfortunately, along the Sumy-Kharkiv highway, towns like Okhtyrka and Trostianets,' which lie near the border, are also under attack. She stressed that the Russian group 'Rubicon' is active in this region, pointing to deliberate aggression.
Alona Yatsyna’s Comments
In reality, KABs aren’t the worst part—because you can track them and respond to the signals. But in this way, they are deliberately hunting, deliberately killing civilians.
Alona Yatsyna
The situation in Sumy reflects the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where civilians are caught in the crossfire of military operations. With relentless attacks on infrastructure, the lack of safe shelters puts lives at risk and worsens the humanitarian crisis. Given the activity of Russian military units in the area, it is vital to underscore the need for international attention and support for regions suffering from such aggression.
