Russian Strikes Target Ukrainian Power Grid, Plunging Three Regions into Darkness.
Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure Under Attack
According to Novyny.live: In a targeted assault on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Russian forces have left three regions without electricity. The affected areas are the Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv regions. First Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Artem Nekrasov, provided this update during a briefing held on February 9.
Current Power Supply Status
Across Ukraine, scheduled hourly power outages are currently in effect. Emergency blackouts have also been implemented in some regions to help stabilize the national energy grid. Repair crews are working to restore both power plants and the high-voltage substations that are critical for distributing output from nuclear power stations. Artem Nekrasov noted that nuclear generation capacity has been partially reduced, underscoring the severity of the situation. These attacks are part of a sustained Russian campaign to cripple Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, which began in the fall of 2022.
Energy sector workers are focused on rapidly restoring electricity. The situation is under control, but it will take time to achieve full stability across the country's power system.

In wartime, such actions highlight the critical importance of energy security and the urgent need to repair energy systems to support the civilian population and the economy. Restoring power to the blacked-out regions must be a priority for the government and energy companies to prevent further social and economic consequences.
