Russian Drone Strike Targets Odesa Region, Causing Civilian Harm and Infrastructure Damage.
Odesa Region Targeted in Drone Assault
According to Novyny.live: On February 12, Russian military forces launched an attack on the Odesa region using strike drones. The assault resulted in damage to residential buildings, commercial properties, and energy infrastructure. One person was injured, and the attack caused significant destruction and fires, which led to approximately 15 vehicles being set ablaze. This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure far from the front lines.
Emergency Response and Widespread Impact
Emergency services were immediately mobilized to address the aftermath of the strike. The response involved:
- 58 rescue workers
- 16 pieces of equipment
Psychologists from the emergency service provided aid to 23 residents who were at the center of the events, highlighting the human toll of the attack.
The strike also triggered critical utility failures. A major substation belonging to the DTEK energy company was damaged, causing power outages. These outages subsequently disrupted water supply in the Kyivskyi and Khadzhybeiskyi districts of Odesa. In response, all planned repair work for the day was canceled to prioritize urgent infrastructure restoration.
This incident underscores the persistent threat to civilian areas and the severe consequences for essential services. Restoring damaged infrastructure and ensuring access to basic utilities like electricity and water remain critical challenges for local authorities. The situation reflects the ongoing security challenges in the region and the continuous need for coordinated efforts to protect the population from future attacks.
