Russia Launches Drone Assault on Ukraine
According to UATV: On February 19, 2023, Russian forces attacked Ukraine using 37 strike drones, approximately 20 of which were Iranian-made 'Shahed' models. The assault originated from the Bryansk and Kursk regions of Russia, as well as from the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast. This attack is part of a sustained campaign of air assaults that has intensified in recent months.
As of 08:30, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed 29 of the hostile drones. Preliminary reports from the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine indicate that strike drones hit targets at four different locations.
Strike in Donetsk Oblast
In a separate incident on February 18, Russian occupying forces carried out an airstrike on the city of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk Oblast. These events underscore the ongoing Russian aggression and the persistent threats faced by Ukrainian territories. The continued use of Iranian drones highlights Russia's reliance on foreign military partnerships to sustain its war effort.
These attacks emphasize the constant threat posed by Russian forces to Ukraine, despite the effective efforts of Ukrainian air defense. The situation remains tense, with the potential for further escalation having serious implications for regional security.
