Ukraine Intercepts 100 Drones in Major Russian Assault Involving Ballistic Missile.
Russian Forces Launch Combined Ballistic and Drone Strike on Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: In a large-scale overnight assault on February 18, Russian military forces targeted Ukraine with a combined strike using one 'Iskander-M' ballistic missile and 126 attack drones. The launches originated from Crimea and several Russian cities, including Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Shatalove, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk. This attack is part of a sustained campaign of long-range strikes that has intensified in recent months.
Ukraine's air defense forces responded to the threat, successfully intercepting or jamming 100 of the 126 hostile drones, approximately 80 of which were identified as 'Shahed' models. Despite this defensive effort, the ballistic missile and 23 attack drones struck their targets across 14 different locations.
The attack resulted in civilian casualties in Zaporizhzhia, where a 48-year-old woman was killed and six other individuals were injured. These strikes underscore the ongoing threat to civilian areas far from the front lines.
This assault highlights the continued intensity of military actions, with the use of ballistic missiles and drones pointing to the increasingly technological nature of the conflict in Eastern Europe.
Given the scale of the attack and its impact on civilians, the situation in Ukraine remains critical, necessitating sustained international attention and support for its defense efforts.
